It is cheap and easy to hire a car in Bali, but most tourists opt not to because the lax driving laws and intensely chaotic streets around the island make it difficult and sometimes dangerous for foreigners to drive there. If you do choose to rent a car in Bali, you should be aware that driving is done on the left-hand side, in a right-side steering car, as in the U.K. A typical Bali car rental would be a small sedan or 2-door car costing around €15. Equally easy and nearly as cheap would be to hire a private car and driver to escort you around the island for the duration of your stay, eliminating the need to face Bali’s crazy roads on your own.

Most hotels in Bali offer shuttles to and from the airport, as well as to nearby beaches and towns if the aren’t already located directly adjacent to those points of interest.

Another popular mode of transport in Bali is a motorbike. Motorbikes can be rented from a number of hotels, hostels and roadside stands for incredibly cheap rates. If you are competent on a motorcycle, this can be an excellent way to explore the island’s interior for a day or two without the hassle of driving in a full-sized car.
